The following is a list of possible sources and repositories for finding information on our ancestors. Clearly identify the research question, person or family, time period and location (city, county, and state) before searching any of the lists. Be clear what records - census, vital, land, probate, cemetery, church, etc. - to be found. Evaluate this list for ease of access and value of the information available. Add or delete from the list as needed to specifically address each research question.
From this, develop detailed plans that include record types, years available, database titles, call numbers, etc. and where they are located. Check, review and visit these online sources and repositories as frequently as needed to adequately answer your research question. Off-line sources listed include public and local genealogical libraries and are abbreviated as follows: HQRL-Heritage Quest Research Library, SPL-Seattle Public Library, TPL-Tacoma Public Library, and KCLS-King County Public Library System.
